Healthy food takes time to grow. Living soil takes time to build. Nourishing relationships take time to thrive. Spiritual practice takes time to get you grounded.

Slow down and feel the gratitude for the good things in life.

In an era of fast food, immediate (selfish) satisfaction, and transcendental spirituality, I believe that growing our food garden qualifies as one of the best overall remedies:

  • It teaches patience &consistency, thus allowing us to slow our lives down. This is crucial to let the Mystery make it itself known in our lives.
  • It fosters connection with self, others and nature, thus expanding our sense of self to include all the plantary ecology.
  • It restores meaning and value, thus giving us spychospiritual tools to deal with the hardships and painful stuff of life.

Gardening is a holistic activity that nourishes body, mind, and spirit thus helping us discover soul, our privileged place in Nature.

  • Do you feel like you need to work out? Weed the garden beds, move some wood and stone around to make a new design, cut the grass, etc.
  • Do you need to meditate and quiet your mind? Go talk with a salad and a tree, they’ll understand without you even needing to usher a word!
  • Do you need to regulate your emotions to be more present and available for your family? Dig your hands in the soil, it’s scientifically proven that the microorganisms living in there can help your body balance its serotonine levels!
  • Do you want to meet God? Nature is the surest place to look for! Whatever religion is yours, Nature is Sacred and inspires a sense of awe that flirts with the Divine and takes us back to the golden years of our early childhood.

Remember: small and slow is the way of nature for building thriving ecosystems. Slow down, make your life easier, look up and feel the gratitude.

This is not a new age BS remedy to all the pain, a quick fix that will make all the suffering of the world go away. No, this stuff will also take time to heal. But gratitude is the one thing we need to give ourselves the emotional buoyancy we so desperately need in order to open our hearts, feel the hurt, face it and do something about it.
